A Few Candid Pics from the Rehearsal Dinner & Morning of a Lovely Wedding

A few candid shots that I shot for fun memories for the family and friends at the rehearsal dinner and before the wedding hair prep.  One of the greatest things that I loved about the Trietsch/Turgeon wedding was how they included so much extended family...AKA friends.....into the joy with their physical immediate family.  They really focused on using their special time in serving everyone rather than taking, and I will never forget that.

A Walk with Sophia!

Almost every weekend after services, my Aunt takes me for a walk on campus.  My favorite spots are the Swans in Flight and the Waterfall, and I've gotten into liking the rock areas too.  My Daddy and Aunt use to like to visit the Swans in Flight when they were kids down in Texas at AC where they grew up, so it's super neat that I get to experience that now that they are up here where we live now.  My Aunt is the type that likes to take me for a walk, but if I'm too slow in being ready, she'll go home, so this week as soon as I saw her, I said "walk, wanna walk, wanna walk" and she took me with my Mama's permission.  On the photo above I was thinking, really Aunt, do you always have to take so many photos of me.  Come on, we're suppose to be walking here.  BTW--I call my Aunt, simply Aunt, not Aunt Carolyn.  I can say Aunt Carolyn, yes I can, but I choose to call her Aunt.  I mean, you call Daddy, Daddy, you call Mama, Mama, you call Grandpa, Grandpa and sometimes Papa when I feel like it, and you call Grandma, Grandma, so Aunt is Aunt.  She's my only Aunt, so it just makes sense to me.  I'm a no non sense type of gal.
On the photo below, Aunt wanted to take a photo of us together, so I obliged her.  When grandma saw the photo she said we look so much alike.

I can act so girly and feminine like my Mama and my Aunt, but I also can be a tom boy too.  My Aunt use to like to play with dirt when she was young like me, and I like to play with rocks.  My Aunt wouldn't let me keep them though.  She said they weren't mine, so I had to put them back, and she reminded me what day of the week it was, and that I was getting my dress dirty. To be honest, my Mama cleans my clothes, I'm still too young, so sometimes I forget to think about those kind of things.  My Aunt's girly side loves beautiful dresses, so of course she would think of that.
After awhile my Aunt decided it was time to go back in before we got too hot outside.  At services they always serve apple juice to all of the kids who want it as a treat.  It might not be a big deal to adults, but to us kids, it's one of the days biggest highlights.  When we got back inside I went to Daddy and told him "Thirsty, want apple juice."  He then informed me that I was too late and that they had already stopped serving apple juice.
My reaction wasn't that pretty.  I looked at my Aunt and started crying and blamed her for missing my apple juice.  Look at my face below.  I was pretty upset.  My Aunt reminded me that I was the one who asked her to take me on a walk, and I was the one that kept telling her I wasn't ready to go back inside.
.....so I bucked up and sucked it all in and got happy again.  BTW--Happy is still my favorite song, so if I ever visit you, play that and I'll be a happy little girl.  Pun intended.  It all ended with me looking at my Mama in happiness as shown on the pic below though I was still honestly a little cranky from missing my apple juice.  A great service, a great walk, a little down about missing the apple juice, but then I thought, it's okay, I am blessed and happy!  ---THE END!

Latest Sophia Musing

Sophia apparently was over visiting my mom AKA her grandmother, just in case you didn't know that!  :-)  when she told my mom to "Say good morning to Aunt."  My mom said that she then repeated twice after "her message"...."Tell Aunt, Tell Aunt."  Never mind that it was probably afternoon when she visited, she wanted to make sure to say good morning.  LOL!  Love it!

Fun Aunt and Niece Facts That I Have Learned

If you take a walk you quickly learn that you end up carrying the weight for two....yourself and carrying the niece.  A positive to this is that you got your workout in for the day and a negative is that your arms will feel like lead weights in being sore the next day.  Aunts without kids usually don't have strollers lying around.

You learn that you are the cool factor in your nieces family life.  You are not a parent or grand parent, you are there to entertain and to just be cool in their eyes.  When you babysit them or their parents are just not around, they don't see you as a babysitter or parent, but just the Aunt who happens to be an adult, so its acceptable, but you realize you make your niece feel cool and grown up even though you know you are there to supervise them, but you secretly like being thought of as the cool one.  LOL

One of the biggest things that makes you cool is that you have a whole room in your house that dedicated to fun called the fun room.  It is a child's dream world in there.  You realize that kids only see the physical things to make an impression on them at such a young age, so you try to put physical things in the fun room that will lead them to greater thoughts later on.

You realize you have to be on your Ps and Qs in everything that you say because you may think they aren't listening, but minutes later they will repeat something even if just one word that you said that stuck out to them.  You realize because you are the cool family factor they are trying to be like you.   You learn to be more aware of what you do and say, and you secretly know you aren't really that cool...if they only knew. :-)

You realize that if you eat something you have to be prepared to share some of whatever you are eating realizing that your niece will probably only take a few bites and be done and realize the rest is wasted and not be annoyed.  You realize that as the Aunt this only happens at random times not all of the time like a Mom.  You then realize that is why a lot of moms are in shape.  Besides chasing their kids around, they only get to eat half of their food.  :-)

You realize that your niece prefers sweets while you prefer savory and that your niece likes cooking like you even though she is too young.  Her favorite cabinet is your spice cabinet.  Put us together and a food metaphor would be sweet and sour chicken, complimentary spices working together.
